Ontario Providing Additional Millions to Protect Local Schools

February 2, 2021

North Bay – Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced an additional investment of $2,235,744 to further protect students and staff within our four local school boards. This funding is provided through the Safe Return to Class Fund, that prioritizes safe and quality learning in schools.

“These investments will assist students and staff in Nipissing, by providing further protection from COVID-19,” said MPP Fedeli.” We are pleased to see that the transmission of the virus in schools in Ontario has been low, and we plan to keep it that way.”

School Boards in Nipissing will receive additional funding to supports HVAC systems, PPE, Student Transportation and Technologic Devices. Each local school board will receive the following:

  • Near North District School Board will receive $1,075,476
  • Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic District School Board – $401,906
  • Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord – $347,289
  • Conseil scolaire public du Nord Est – $411,073

Although transmission in schools has been low, this funding will be used to improve air quality and ventilation in schools, support online learning, promote student mental health and hire additional staff. With this new funding, schools will have been provided with more than $1.6 billion to better protect students, staff, and families.
