New Child Care Centre Added

June 2, 2020

NORTH BAY — Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced that an additional emergency child care centre – Friends Forever Childcare Centre– is now open for frontline workers. This ensures that frontline health care workers – doctors, nurses and paramedics, firefighters, police, and correctional officers – will be able to access safe, local emergency child care.

As previously announced, Ontario is exempting certain childcare centres from closure, in order to support our nurses, doctors, and frontline care workers across the province. Friends Forever Childcare Centre joins the North Bay Daycare Centre, YMCA Mother St. Bride Centre, YMCA Woodland Early Learning and Child Care Centre in North Bay, and Fairview Early Learning and Child Care Centre in Powassan, as available centres.

“We know that as health-care and other front-line workers try to keep us safe, they could use help on the home front,” said Fedeli. “That is why we are teaming up with partners to deliver in unprecedented speed child care centres near hospitals and other health care facilities across Ontario.”

Quick Facts

  • Ontario public schools will remain closed until the end of June. Private schools, licensed child care centres and EarlyON programs will remain closed until May 29, according to the Declaration of Emergency, which only allows closures to be extended for one 14-day period at a time.
  • On Tuesday, March 31, Ontario launched the second phase of Learn at Home and Apprendre à la maison, a new online portal that will provide resources for families so students can continue their education while schools are closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
