Ontario Working to Support Communities in Nipissing

January 30, 2019

TORONTO – The Ontario government reinforced its commitment to create jobs across the province, including in Nipissing, at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference (ROMA).

At the ROMA conference, ministers, parliamentary assistants and members of provincial parliament met with over 300 rural municipal delegations – a record number. They discussed topics ranging from growth and economic development to policing reforms to infrastructure investments.

“The Ontario government, working for the people, is taking action on many rural issues that communities in Nipissing face,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “We are listening to rural concerns and we are here for all Ontarians.”

Premier Doug Ford, Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs delivered remarks to delegates.

“It was an honour to have the chance to attend the ROMA conference and talk about what our government has been delivering for rural Ontario,” said Premier Ford. “Whether it’s cutting red tape to make Ontario open for business and jobs, putting more money in people’s pockets, or supporting municipalities with infrastructure and planning – you can always count on having a partner in our government.”

Premier Ford addressed a long-standing request from municipalities and announced that the Ontario government intends to consult on joint and several liability. The government will look at evidence and develop solutions that make sense for the people.

Rural communities are vital to the province’s success. The government will continue to put rural matters at the forefront of Ontario’s Plan for the People and help ensure these communities can thrive.
