Ontario Highlights Over $7 Million Invested in Mattawa

July 15, 2026

MATTAWA — Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing recently joined Mattawa Mayor Raymond Bélanger to tour several sites of local enhancement projects supported by the Ontario government. The highlighted investments totalling at $7 million to support critical infrastructure and community connection will improve local roads, strengthen drinking water systems, and enhance community programs for seniors in our community.

“It was great to join Mattawa Mayor Bélanger and CAO Laperriere to visit the completed Dorion Road reconstruction project and tour the town’s site for a new water reservoir supported by the province,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Through these investments the Ontario government continues to support Mattawa’s long-term growth, while helping to build stronger, more resilient northern and rural communities.”

Today’s highlighted investments include:

  • $4,312,298 for the Dorion Road Construction Project/ICIP & Mattawa Reservoir Project as part of the larger $17 Million Investment to Support Critical Water Infrastructure.  This funding provided through the Health and Safety Water Stream will support the Town of Mattawa’s water reservoir and related waterworks, including a new supply well assessment.
  • $3,177,000 for the Mattawa Main Street- Connecting Links Project as part of a local $8.2 Million Investment to Upgrade Roads in Nipissing. This funding as part of the Connecting Links program will support the town of Mattawa’s reconstruction of Main Street from the Highway 17 Roundabout to Mauril Belanger Bridge.
  • $24,991 for the Mattawa Arena’s Seniors Can Skate Program as part of the$75,000 invested to Support Seniors Activities in Nipissing through funding from the Seniors Community Grants Projects. This support will help to expand accessible recreational opportunities for veterans of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds in Mattawa. The program will provide skates, skate aids, sharpening, and structured instruction.

Investing in local infrastructure is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by building more transit, highways, hospitals, schools and housing-enabling infrastructure. This is the most ambitious capital plan in Canadian history. The government’s support will continue to keep local communities moving while ensuring people have access to safe, reliable transportation and drinking water in Mattawa.

Additionally, the Seniors Can Skate program promotes physical and mental well-being, reduces social isolation, and strengthens community connection for seniors. Through investment in adaptive equipment and inclusive programming, the Town of Mattawa affirms its commitment to ensuring all residents, including those who have served, have equitable access to recreation. Seniors Community Grants is a unique Ontario government grant designed to reduce social isolation, fight ageism, and create positive connections.
