This funding provided through the Seniors Community Grants Projects will help seniors stay fit, active, healthy, and socially connected in Nipissing.
“The Ontario government recognizes the importance of investing in senior’s programs, services, and activities that support the health and well-being of seniors across the province,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Today’s investment will ensure that seniors in Nipissing have access to a variety of opportunities to connect with one another, keep moving, and live more independently.”
Todays funding includes:
- $25,000 for Nipissing First Nation to support their Kchi-ayaag Ektigewaad (Seniors Gardening Club).
- $24,991 for the Town of Mattawa to support their Seniors Can Skate program.

“This investment in our Kchi-ayaag Ektigewaad (Seniors Gardening Club) will create meaningful opportunities for NFN seniors to stay active, connected, and rooted in our culture. Through caring for the land and shared spaces, they will strengthen relationships, build confidence, and pass on knowledge to future generations. We are grateful for this support to nurture both the well-being of our Elders and the spirit of our community.” – Cathy Stevens, Gimaa (Chief) of Nipissing First Nation.
“We are grateful to the Province of Ontario for partnering with us to create the seniors and veterans skate program through this grant! Social and physical fitness during the winter months is key to our community’s success.” – Dexture Sarrazin, Director of Community Services for the Town of Mattawa.
Up to $25,000 per project is invested in local services, activities, and events to provide seniors with opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism, and community engagement. The Seniors Community Grants is a unique Ontario government grant designed to reduce social isolation, fight ageism, and create positive connections.
Since 2018, Ontario has invested more than $40 million dollars in over 2,100 Seniors Community Grants. This support has helped several local not-for-profit community groups and organizations deliver projects, supports, and resources that help older adults (aged 55+) get involved in our community.
The Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility is working hard to ensure seniors stay safe, while promoting the benefits of age-diverse, accessible workplaces, and communities where everyone is able to participate, making Ontario more accessible for everyone.
