Over $11 Million to Support Area Hospitals

January 16, 2026

NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that the Ontario government is investing over $11 million in additional base funding for two area hospitals, so patients can continue to have access to high-quality hospital services. This funding is in addition to the $15 million announced in December 2025 to support operations and bed capacity.

“Today’s significant investment will enable the North Bay Regional Health Centre and the Mattawa Hospital to plan and budget sustainably, strengthen stability, and protect access to core services for patients and their families,” said MPP Fedeli. “The Ontario government recognizes the unique challenges faced by small and Northern hospitals, and we will continue working hard to relieve pressures for our hospitals located in Nipissing.”

Total funding includes:

  • $10,746,700 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • $500,000 for the Mattawa Hospital

“We are very pleased with the news from MPP Fedeli that the provincial government is coming through with this significant funding for NBRHC. These funds, together with the previously announced cost-saving measures, significantly improves and stabilizes the financial situation facing our health centre in both the immediate and mid-term. We are particularly appreciative that many of the recent funding announcements have been base funding.” – Paul Heinrich, President and CEO, NBRHC.

“MPP Fedeli has been a strong and consistent advocate for rural health care. An increase in hospital funding is essential to ensuring Mattawa Hospital can continue providing safe, high-quality care close to home. With this additional targeted financial support, we can better meet the growing needs, strengthen staffing, and sustain the vital services our community relies on.” – Tanya Bélanger, President and CEO, Mattawa Hospital.

Through Budget 2025, the Ontario government is allocating a 1% increase to the hospital sector to provide targeted funding to address key challenges at specific hospitals, including small and Northern hospitals and those experiencing high patent volumes.

This investment represents an important first step within the broader Health Sector Stabilization Plan, a multi-year strategy to align investments with structural needs and optimize funding models toward performance-based approaches to provide long-term sustainability across the hospital sector.

Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government continues to take bold and decisive action to expand and modernize Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
