Over $2,000,000 Invested in Local Hospital Upgrades and Repairs

September 2, 2025

NIPISSING — Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced the Ontario government is continuing to protect local health care by investing over $2,000,000 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding (HIRF) and Community Infrastructure Renewal Funding (CIRF) to two local hospitals.

“Today’s investment will provide support for essential infrastructure improvements, creating a safer, more comfortable space for people and their families connecting to care and services within our local hospitals,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Our government has been taking action and making record investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system ensuring patients and families can more easily connect to convenient care, close to home.”

“We are incredibly grateful for the enhanced funding provided through HIRF and CIRF. This support is essential to maintaining our aging infrastructure at our King St. location in North Bay and Kirkwood location in Sudbury. These sites play a vital role in caring for people across our district who rely on mental health and addiction services and patients living with some of the most complex behavioural health needs in the northeast region.”– Paul Heinrich, President and CEO of North Bay Regional Health Centre.

Local funding includes:

  • $1,888,085 to the North Bay Regional Health Centre through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund for the 2025-26 year.
  • $133,476 to the North Bay Regional Health Centre through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund for the 2025-26 year and the 2026-2027 year.
  • $57,960 to the Mattawa Hospital through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund for the 2025-26 year.

The HIRF and the CIRF programs enable health-care system partners to address their urgent infrastructure needs, including upgrading or replacing roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms and emergency generators. This year, the Ontario government increased funding for these programs by 12.3 per cent.

Ontario continues to make historic investments in health care. Over the next 10 years, the province is investing nearly $60 billion on major health infrastructure. This is part of the Ontario government’s plan to get shovels in the ground on more than 50 major hospital projects across the province, which will deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds and build a connected, people-first health-care system.

Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is expanding and modernizing hospitals and building new health-care facilities, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
