$370,000 to Support Active Seniors
June 13, 2025NIPISSING — Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that the Ontario government is investing $370,000 into seven Seniors Active Living Centers (SALCs) in Nipissing. These centres offer seniors and older adults learning opportunities, including financial management, elder abuse prevention, and a variety of recreational and social activities.
“June is Seniors Month, a time to celebrate the contributions our seniors have made to make this province the great place it is today. We’re proud the Ontario government is investing in Senior Active Living Centres like the programs offered at 250 Clark in Powassan, and others,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “These programs bring people together to be with old friends and meet new friends, providing ongoing recreational, social, and lifestyle activities.”
Investments include the following:
- $59,420 to The Village Community Hub in Canadore College.
- $59,420 to Les Jeunes de Coeur a North Bay avec Les Compagnons
- $59,420 to the North Bay Golden Age Club
- $59,420 for Club Action 50+ East Ferris
- $58,586 to the Mattawa Senior Citizens Club
- $41,376 to the Callander Elderly Persons’ Centre (Royal Canadian Legion Branch 445)
- $33,420 to the Powassan Seniors in Action Program
“Funding provided to the SALC allows our seniors to stay engaged, fit, healthy, and socially connected. There are a number of organized activities at the Callander branch, such as playing cards, knitting etc. where the seniors meet weekly and connect with their friends. They can enjoy monthly dinners and scheduled outings.” – Richard Rhindress, President, RCL Branch 445, Callander.
“Receiving support from the SALC program is a meaningful milestone for Les Compagnons. Thanks to this funding from the Province of Ontario, we’re able to bring our initiative Les jeunes de cœur to life — a program designed to keep seniors in North Bay active, socially engaged, and connected to one another. For many, it’s more than just activities; it’s a space to belong, to connect with others, and to feel valued. We’re deeply grateful for this investment in the well-being and vitality of our local seniors.” – Arnaud Claude, Les Compagnons des francs loisirs
“Canadore launched The Village as an innovative community hub to foster healthy aging through inter-professional, inter-cultural, and intergenerational collaboration,” said George Burton, Canadore President and CEO. “By connecting students, seniors, and local agencies, The Village supports independent living, social inclusion, and access to essential programs and services. Canadore thanks the Government of Ontario for its ongoing support of the program, designating The Village as a Seniors Active Living Centre.”
“Thank you for the funding we received. Without it, Club 135 Seniors in Action aka the North Bay Golden Age Club would not be able to offer many of our activities to keep Seniors in North Bay and area active and engaged.” – Maureen Bruce-Payne, Chair/Treasurer
“On behalf of the seniors of our community and our Seniors Active Living Centre, Club Action 50+ East Ferris, I would like to thank the Province of Ontario with support from Minister Cho and MPP Fedeli for this much needed funding. These funds assist our Club in its day-to-day operations and programming that encourage our seniors to stay active and socially engaged with their friends and the senior’s population in East Ferris. The variety of programming organized by our Club is exceptional and these programs are vital in keeping our seniors, who make up more than 50% of our population, independent and healthy as they age in their community.” – Rick Champagne, Mayor of East Ferris
“I would like to thank Minister Fedeli and the Provincial Government for this funding. 250 Clark was developed, and programming has been developed to provide activities for our community. Today’s announcement ensures we continue to deliver on our vision of making the Municipality of Powassan an active community by providing recreational opportunities for everyone.” – Peter McIsaac, Mayor of the Municipality of Powassan
