Over $900,000 to Support Emergency Departments

June 10, 2025

NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that the Ontario government is investing over $900,000 to support two hospital emergency departments in Nipissing through the Emergency Department Pay-for-Results Program (EDP4R) for the 2025-26 year.  Provincial funding supports both high-volume and low-volume emergency departments in increasing front-line services, maintaining program stability, and enhancing services for people of all ages seeking emergency care.

“Our emergency departments and health-care professionals work tirelessly to attend to the needs of patients in our community,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “The Ontario government continues to invest in our local hospitals, so they can reduce emergency room wait times and deliver care close to home.”

Local funding is as follows:

  • $814,400 for the North Bay Regional Health Centre
  • $100,000 for the Mattawa Hospital

“The North Bay Regional Health Centre welcomes the funding announced by MPP Fedeli for the Emergency Department. We are optimistic that this funding, combined with investments in alternate level of care and other community-based services, will collectively help to bring down wait times and improve service access at our hospital.” Paul Heinrich, North Bay Regional Health Centre President and CEO.

“The Mattawa Hospital is grateful for the continued support of our government in securing funding through the Emergency Department Pay-for-Results Program. This funding allowed the creation of a FT Nurse Leader in our Emergency Department. This has directly enhanced our department’s ability to reduce wait times, improve patient flow and ultimately provide better care to the people of Mattawa and surrounding areas.” – Tanya Belanger, President & CEO, Mattawa Hospital.

With Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the province is continuing to find innovative ways to reduce wait times and make it faster and easier for Ontarians to access timely emergency care.
