$6 Million for Post-Secondary Institutions to Modernize Infrastructure

NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that the Ontario government is continuing to deliver high-quality post-secondary education by investing $6 million in Canadore College and Nipissing University for the 2024-25 year to modernize infrastructure. This funding will allow for upgrading buildings and acquiring the latest learning tools, ensuring students receive the skills they need to succeed in their future careers. Funding is provided through the Facilities Renewal Program, the College Equipment and Renewal Fund, and the Training Equipment and Renewal Fund.

“Canadore College and Nipissing University play a vital role in fostering the next generation of workers for Nipissing,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This investment will ensure students receive a cutting-edge education, preparing them to make strong contributions to our local economy for decades to come.”

Local funding includes:

  • $3,022,171 for Canadore College to support classroom renovations, a boiler upgrade, purchasing equipment to support aviation, and healthcare and STEM programs.
  • $2,931,551 for Nipissing University to support building renovations, HVAC replacements, and equipment for nursing and kinesiology programs.

Our government continues to deliver a world-class post-secondary education in Ontario, investing over $5 billion in the sector every year. This investment is part of a larger $228 million investment to improve infrastructure at Ontario colleges and universities.

QUICK FACTS

  • $196 million is being provided through the Facilities Renewal Program in 2024-25 to help publicly assisted colleges and universities maintain, repair, and renew existing facilities.
  • $21.5 million is being provided through the College Equipment and Renewal Fund in 2024-25 to help colleges buy and renew instructional equipment and learning resources.
  • $10.5 million is being provided through the Training Equipment and Renewal Fund in 2024-25 to help universities renew and buy modern, state-of-the art equipment and learning resources.
