Ontario Investing in Essential Dam Infrastructure in Papineau-Cameron

NIPISSING – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the community of Papineau-Cameron is benefiting from a provincial infrastructure investment to rehabilitate the Hurdman Dam. This funding is part of the government’s over $75 million investment to rehabilitate ten dams across the province to keep people and communities safe.
“The rehabilitation of the Hurdman Dam and nine others across Ontario represents the next step in the government’s long-term plan to improve dam infrastructure to protect public safety,” said MPP Vic Fedeli.
“We are extremely pleased with the announcement of the rehabilitation of the Hurdman dam. Our provincial government recognized the importance of keeping this dam safe and economically viable for the benefit of our citizens. This investment is responsive to past recommendations made by the Auditor General and aligns with the province’s commitment to enhance public infrastructure, foster economic growth and strengthen communities across Ontario.

- The Ministry of Natural Resources is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 310 dams across the province.
- The rehabilitation of the ten dams will extend the useful service life of each for up to 100 years.
