Province Invests $1.3 Million for Public Transit Improvements
May 17, 2024NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is investing $1, 378,155 through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) to support three transit projects in North Bay.
“This is a great day for transit riders in North Bay. We’re expanding access to transit throughout the city and connecting more people to jobs, housing, and other opportunities as we lower our emissions and make major improvements to North Bay’s key transit terminals,” said MPP Fedeli. “The provincial government is proud to contribute to these public transportation enhancements that will improve accessibility and safety for users.”
North Bay’s Transit ICIP projects include:
- Purchasing two gas and six hybrid buses to replace specialized transit vehicles to improve accessibility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Purchasing two sidewalk tractors with attachments and replacing aging hoists with five new transit vehicle lifting devices to improve safety and efficiency.
- In addition, the city will retrofit a key transit terminal with a video screen displaying arrival times alongside upgraded heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to enhance the customer experience. Improvements to the terminal’s automated systems and the installation of passenger counters will provide North Bay Transit with valuable insights into terminal usage and maintenance requirements.
