$300,000 to Support Surgical Recovery at NBRHC
December 8, 2023NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is investing $300,000 to the North Bay Regional Health Centre through the Surgical Recovery Fund for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The Surgical Recovery Fund is used by hospitals to open their operating room on evenings or weekends to further reduce the surgical backlog and surgical wait times.
“The North Bay Regional Health Centre has been unwavering in their commitment to provide exceptional care to our community,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Our government continues to make progress in addressing wait times for surgeries and other procedures to ensure that everyone in our region has confidence in and access to the best healthcare available.”
“Our Health Centre is grateful for these funds as they will allow us to purchase a portable ultrasound unit that can be used to increase our capacity for total knee and hip replacement surgeries,” said Paul Heinrich, NBRHC President and CEO. “Not only will it help us reduce the chance of cancellations, it will increase our ability to perform more same day discharges of total joint replacements.”
To complement this increase in capacity, the training dollars will support the training of Operating Room RNs, Operating Room Technicians, Diagnostic Imaging Medical Radiation Technologists and Chemotherapy Systemic Treatment RNs at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
