Nipissing Hospices Receive Top-Up Funding
June 2, 2023NIPISSING – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is providing $543,100 in additional one-time funding for two hospices in Nipissing for the 2023-24 year. This funding is to address growing pressures and increase access to high-quality palliative care to support existing residential hospice capacity through increased operational funding for Ministry-approved beds.
“This investment will help local patients receive the respect, dignity and care they deserve at every stage of their lives, while ensuring Nipissing Serenity Hospice and the Mattawa Hospital have the tools, they need to continue to provide high-quality care,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Our government is committed to improving access to comfortable, end-of-life care in communities across the province including here in Nipissing.”
The following funding breakdown is as follows:
- Nipissing Serenity Hospice – $473,000
- Mattawa Hospital – $70,100
Residential hospices provide specialized end-of-life care to approximately 7,000 Ontarians per year who would otherwise seek care in hospitals and deliver 24/7 end-of-life nursing and personal support services in a home-like setting, at no charge to patients or their families. This investment will support nursing, personal support, and other services delivered to patients in 83 residential hospices across the province.
“Nipissing Serenity Hospice is grateful to the Ontario Government for providing additional operational funding to ease some of the financial burden faced by hospices across Ontario. This funding will assist us in continuing to deliver high-quality holistic care in a home-like setting for the residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. On behalf of the communities we serve, our residents and their loved ones, thank you.”- Gil Pharand, Executive Director, Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
“As the operational costs continue to increase, we are very appreciative of the top-up funding for our state of the art one bed hospice suite. We are dedicated to provide our community with the highest quality palliative and end of life care, and these funds will most definitely help us achieve our goal.” – Tanya Bélanger, President and CEO of the Mattawa Hospital.
