$163K to Keep Seniors Fit, Active, Healthy and Socially Connected

April 13, 2022

Seniors Active Living Centres are a cornerstone to Ontario’s communities

NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is continuing to invest in the health and well-being of seniors through the Seniors Active Living Centre’s in 2022-23, benefitting seniors in Nipissing. The province is investing $163,265 to four area senior centres to help local seniors stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected with all of their programs.

“Seniors Active Living Centres provide our seniors the quality of life they deserve,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “That is why our government is investing in Seniors Active Living Centre programs which provide support for older adults and their well-being by keeping them active and socially connected within their own communities.”

The following SALC recipients include the following:

  • $54,014 for East Ferris Club Action 50+
  • $54,014 for the North Bay Golden Age Club
  • $44,637 for the Mattawa Senior Citizens Club
  • $10,600 for Callander Elderly Persons’ Centre

“The Municipality of East Ferris is pleased that the provincial government has renewed funding for the East Ferris Senior Active Living Centre in the amount of $54,014. The Centre is home to the East Ferris Club Action 50+, a key organization that provides essential services in our community. A very special thank you to MPP Fedeli for his support of the East Ferris seniors’ community,” said Pauline Rochefort, Mayor of East Ferris.

“SALC funding has allowed our organization to make upgrades that will ensure the longevity of our Club, and the safety of our Club members and patrons,” said Katie Voyer, Office Administrator for the North Bay Golden Age Club.

“Without the SALC program it would be hard for us to continue with all the events we have for our elderly. Bus trip to North Bay once a month for example,” said Mike Lavigne, President of the Mattawa Seniors Citizens Club.

“The Senior Active Living Centre funding allows the Callander Legion to support seniors in our community with events, such as knitting groups, lunches, dinners, cards, shuffleboard, darts and many other activities that are held in the Seniors Room and other areas of the Callander Legion,” said Marc Picard, President, branch 445, Callander/Callander Elderly Persons Centre.

This year’s funding shows our government’s on-going and growing commitment to Ontario’s seniors throughout the province.
