Ontario Improving Health Services in Mattawa

November 9, 2018

MATTAWA – Ontario’s Government for the People is improving health facilities in Mattawa as the Algonquin Nursing Home relocates to the local hospital.

Today, Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced a $1 million investment that will support new services at the facility, including respite care, a hospice suite, an Indigenous healing room and a hospitality suite.

This project involves many partners, including local and regional stakeholders, Indigenous communities, health professionals and other organizations. The Mattawa Hospital and the Algonquin Nursing Home offer services to residents in the communities of Bonfield, Calvin, Mattawan, Papineau-Cameron and Mattawa.

“This health hub project will provide important new wellness services in the Mattawa area and help the community attract health professionals, new residents and businesses,” said Fedeli. “We are pleased that it will help retain current staff and create new jobs in the area.”

“Our government is committed to helping northern communities maintain and strengthen hospitals to provide improved health and wellness services closer to home,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. “We commend the Mattawa Hospital and its partners for developing this integrated model that will add to the quality of life of residents in the region.”

“We thank the province for helping us enhance health care, wellness and long-term care services in Mattawa,” said Pierre Noel, President and CEO of Mattawa Hospital. “Our Rural Northern Health Hub project will provide integrated health care services and more efficiencies that benefit residents of this great region.”
