FAO Confirms Wynne Government Numbers Don’t Reflect Reality: Fedeli

November 28, 2016

QUEEN’S PARK – The following is a statement from Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli regarding today’s commentary from the Financial Accountability Officer, which once again questioned the Wynne government’s ability to meet its commitment to balance the budget:

“Today, the Financial Accountability Officer (FAO) once again confirmed the Wynne government’s recent Fall Economic Statement does not reflect reality.

“Contrary to Minister Sousa’s numbers, The FAO has projected a budget deficit of $2.6 billion in 2017-18 and ‘significant risk’ of a structural deficit going forward.

“This confirms what the Official Opposition has said all along – the Wynne government has a multi-billion dollar hole in their budget forecast.

“However, this government refuses to listen to independent experts. The FAO has confirmed Minister Sousa’s plan to balance the budget in the election year of 2017-18 is a complete fantasy and will only be artificial.

“Rather than own up to its years of waste, mismanagement, and scandals, the Wynne government continues to punish Ontario taxpayers. This means more one-time sell-off of assets such as Hydro One, higher taxes, and more cuts to frontline services.

“I urge Premier Wynne and Minister Sousa to come clean with Ontario taxpayers. Will they be raising more taxes or cutting more services to fill the multi-billion dollar hole in their budget?”
