MPP Fedeli Highlights Importance of Financial Literacy
October 12, 2016QUEEN’S PARK – Today, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli and Alterna Savings’ Regional Manager – Ontario North, Dennis Ryan, held a series of financial literacy events with local North Bay students.
The presentations were held at Widdifield Secondary School and Chippewa Secondary School and focused on the importance of helping younger Canadians understand and manage their finances responsibly.
“Thank you to Near North District School Board and Alterna Savings for being excellent partners in this very important initiative,” said Fedeli.
According to a recent Investor Education Fund study, only 40% of those surveyed felt prepared to manage their money after graduating high school. In addition, only 25% of those surveyed felt Ontario’s education system properly highlighted financial literacy.
“The Alterna Savings team was honoured with the opportunity today to educate students on how to make sound financial decisions. The financial landscape can be very confusing these days, which makes it important to start financial education early on,” said Ryan.
“A firm grasp on financial matters helps us live a secure and fulfilling life. As Financial Literacy Month approaches, we all have a vested interest in helping younger Ontarians manage their finances responsibly,” Fedeli concluded.
