July 6, 2026NORTH BAY – Today at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that the Ontario government is investing more than $4.7 million to support improved operations at two local hospitals. Additionally, both hospitals and one local community health care facility will receive investments to support infrastructure upgrades. This funding is part of a $1.1 billion investment in our hospital sector in the 2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario.

“Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding access to key services, ensuring people receive the right care in the right place, close to home,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Today’s additional $4.7 million investment will enable our local health facilities to provide high-quality care and address priority infrastructure needs so patients and their families can continue to access vital services and care in our community.”
Local funding includes the following:
North Bay Regional Health Centre
- $3,707,500 additional operational funding
- $281,338 in Health Infrastructure Renewal Funding (HIRF)
- $216,820 in Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund (CIRF)

“We are grateful for the funding announced by MPP Fedeli, which will help strengthen our capacity to respond to growing patient needs,” says Paul Heinrich, NBRHC President and CEO. “Combined with ongoing investments in community-based services and system-wide partnerships, these resources will support our efforts to improve patient flow, enhance access to care, and deliver the best possible experience for the patients and families we serve.”
“This investment is welcome news for Mattawa Hospital and the communities we serve. The additional operational funding will help us continue delivering timely, patient-centred care, while the infrastructure funding will support critical upgrades that enhance the safety, reliability, and sustainability of our facilities. We thank the Province of Ontario for recognizing the important role small rural hospitals play in ensuring residents can access quality health care close to home.” – Tanya Bélanger, President and CEO, Mattawa Hospital.
“We are grateful for this funding, which will allow us to make essential upgrades to our internal security systems at 194 Main St & 333 Fraser St. The well-being of our staff is always a priority, and these improvements will help us manage access between public and staff areas more safely and smoothly. These changes support a calm, respectful environment for everyone who comes through our doors.” – Mary Davis, CEO, Canadian Mental Health Association North Bay and District.
The additional operational investment in the North Bay Regional Health Center will support core clinical services, enabling them to better meet patient needs. This will include helping patients who need admission move from the Emergency Department to inpatient beds more quickly and improving patient flow to ensure timely access to services such as diagnostic imaging and surgeries. The operational investment in the Mattawa Hospital will support timely care for its patients.
The HIRF and CIRF enables health-care system partners to address their urgent infrastructure needs, including upgrading or replacing roofs, windows, security systems, fire alarms, and emergency generators. Since 2024, the Ontario government has increased funding through the HIRF by10% each year, allowing even more hospitals to complete upgrades and repairs in a timely manner. Since 2018, the Ontario government has doubled its investment through the CIRF, allowing more community-based health service providers to repair and modernize their infrastructure and preserve their operational capacity.
Ontario continues to make historic investments in health care. Over the next 10 years, Ontario is investing approximately $64 billion in major health infrastructure. This is part of the government’s plan to get shovels in the ground on more than 50 major hospital projects across the province, which will deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds to enhance access to quality care and build a connected, people-first health-care system.
