Over $22,000 to Support the Powassan Library
February 28, 2024Ontario Trillium Funding to help the non-profit sector deliver important community services
NIPISSING – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government is investing $22,400 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund for the Municipality of Powassan over 12 months, to build its resilience and sustainability by increasing staff hours and purchasing new technology to bring the Powassan library’s pre-teen tech programs back to pre-pandemic levels.
“Non-profit organizations such as the Powassan Library are a crucial and valued part of our community,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “Countless people rely on their services every day, and we are proud to support this sector through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Community Resilient Fund.”
“We are thrilled to be receiving this Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilience grant. The benefits to our patrons are significant. First, they will have access to state-of-the-art computers, laptops, and iPads. Furthermore, and maybe even more importantly, they will have greater access to Tech Help, since this grant adds 8 more hours per week for an IT staff to provide one-on-one technology help to members of the public. Additionally, we will now have a Meta Quest 2 VR Headset, which will provide members of the public an opportunity to experience total immersion with 3D positional audio, hand tracking and easy to use controller. It should prove to be quite popular, especially with our teen population.” – Marie Rosset, CEO, Powassan Library.
The Resilient Communities Fund supports community-based organizations that deliver programs and services in Ontario and require funding to build capacity, resilience and sustainability. Resilient Community Fund grants support organizations as they:
- develop new approaches to generate revenue
- start new activities to meet community needs
- adjust strategies and plans
- plan for future challenges
The Resilient Communities Fund was created in August 2020 to help Ontario’s non-profit organizations address pandemic-related challenges so they could continue to provide local services. To date, this fund has supported 3,299 projects with $294 million in support.
As the government returns the Ontario Trillium Foundation to its Seed, Grow and Capital grant streams in 2024-25, it will continue to make investments to support communities across the province as they adapt to the changing needs of Ontarians.
