Ontario Strengthening Rural Economic Growth in North Bay

April 4, 2022

NORTH BAY – MPP Vic Fedeli has announced that the Ontario government is investing $76,760 into the City of North Bay’s Workforce Attraction & Retention Initiative through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program. Funding will assist with the attraction and retention of jobs while enhancing economic growth.

“Investments like this one in the City of North Bay help diversify and grow our local economy,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “That’s why, as we continue to recover from COVID-19, initiatives that support strategies for attracting and retaining workers is so important.”

“I would like to thank the provincial government for this important investment to help attract and retain talent in our community,” said Mayor Al McDonald. “We hear continuously from local employers that it is becoming increasing difficult for them to fill positions. This funding will support local businesses and help ensure North Bay remains competitive in attracting and retaining talent.”

This funding is part of 61 projects the Ontario government is supporting to help diversify local economies, retain skilled workers, and create jobs in rural communities. The province is committing up to $3.8 million in cost-share funding through the intake of this funding.

Ontario’s Rural Economic Development Program continues to support rural communities and provide funding that will address barriers to economic development, and better position rural communities for sustained growth and job creation.
