Keeping North Bay Seniors Healthy and Connected

NORTH BAY – Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced that the Ontario government investing $29,000 into two area projects that will enrich the lives of local seniors. This year’s Seniors Community Grant project will provide funding to help seniors to stay fit, active and healthy.
“These projects will make a big difference in the lives of seniors here in North Bay,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “They offer meaningful opportunities for older adults to safely take part in local life and keep connected to friends, family and the community.”
Riding recipients include:
- $25,000 for Canadore College’s Joining Municipal and Indigenous Communities to Build Connection in Nature. This project will seek out the knowledge keepers in the community and bridge the Indigenous and Non-Indigenous community members local to West Parry Sound. The program aims to building communities that recognize and appreciate the land and the teachings of the land.
- $4,000 for Community Living North Bay’s Seniors Connect program. This pilot project is to purchase 2 laptops with specialized technology to assist isolated seniors connect with friends, family and the community. Local university students will engage with seniors using this technology, which will benefit not only the senior but the students as well. The program will be delivered in partnership with Full Circle Home Care Inc. who is providing in-kind training.
“Canadore College is dedicated to creating positive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in communities like Parry Sound, while we implement recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission,” said George Burton, Canadore College President and CEO. “The best way to learn about other cultures is to hear the stories of the people who live them. We thank the Government of Ontario for this funding that will allow Canadore to bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together in a spirit of learning, understanding, and reconciliation.”
