Ontario Providing Funding for Local Hospitals
June 9, 2020NORTH BAY – Today, Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced that Ontario is providing additional funding for area hospitals, including:
- North Bay Regional Health Centre – $2,224,700
- Mattawa General Hospital – $135,300
“Our government is supporting hospitals by ensuring they have the resources they need to meet the growing needs of our community,” said Fedeli. “This hospital investment takes into consideration incremental growth to support flexibility”.
These are extraordinary times that demand extraordinary measures. That’s why the government is also investing $341 million in hospitals to ensure their ongoing readiness to care for an increasing number of COVID-19 patients. This includes funding for up to 1,000 acute care beds, 500 critical care beds, and assessment centres.
Ontario’s government recognizes the long-standing funding inequities for small – and medium-sized hospitals. To provide continued financial stability and relief, the government has annualized the $68 million investment from 2019/20 for small and medium-sized hospitals as part of this funding.
“Our hospital is very appreciative of the ongoing support of the provincial government. Having financially stable health service organizations is vital, now more than ever, as we face the challenges in front of us” said Pierre Noel, President and CEO of Hôpital de Mattawa Hospital. “This funding will go a long way toward keeping our hospital strong and our people safe”.
Quick Facts:
- On March 25, the government released Ontario’s Action Plan: Responding to COVID-19, which included $935 million more in new investments for Ontario hospitals this year.
- As part of that funding, $594 million will support hospitals to meet current and future demands for regular services.
