Prorogation by Wynne Government Too Little, Too Late: Fedeli

September 8, 2016

QUEEN’S PARK – The Wynne government’s decision to prorogue the legislature is nothing more than a distraction tactic, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said today.

Premier Kathleen Wynne indicated she intends to suspend the current session of the Ontario legislature in order to hit the reset button following mounting anger over skyrocketing electricity rates and the premier’s personal popularity hitting new lows.

“The Wynne government is tired, self-interested, and desperately trying to frame a new narrative,” said Fedeli.

“Every failed policy decision this government has made for the last 13 years has made life more unaffordable for Ontarians. Unfortunately, today’s prorogation distraction tactic is too little, too late,” Fedeli added.

Premier Wynne recently acknowledged that Ontario is facing a hydro affordability crisis.

“The Premier and Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault have spent months denying an energy crisis exists. Apparently Premier Wynne has only just learned that Ontario families are struggling to afford their hydro bills.”

“Ontarians are tired of paying the highest electricity rates in North America and no amount of window dressing is going to help with their skyrocketing energy bills,” continued Fedeli.

“When the House returns on Monday, the Official Opposition will be there to hold the Wynne government to account, and ensure they have a credible plan to address the energy crisis. We will continue to fight for affordability,” Fedeli concluded.
