Wynne government sticking seniors with tab for waste, scandal & mismanagement
March 24, 2016QUEEN’S PARK – The Wynne government continues to insist on making life harder for Ontario seniors by pushing ahead with planned increases to their drugs costs as outlined in the budget, said Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli today.
“Seniors are angry over the decision to double the drug costs for 92% of all seniors,” Fedeli said, noting it’s just one of many cost increases the government is forcing on them.
“Skyrocketing hydro bills, doubling costs for medications, gasoline taxes, increasing natural gas, and the list goes on and on — all because this Premier cannot control spending,” said Fedeli.
“My question to the Premier is when will she stop making seniors pay for her waste, mismanagement, and scandals?”
Fedeli also spoke about a large group of seniors who gathered in his North Bay office last week, including Bonnie Beam, who told media gathered about how she only turns the heat on in her bathroom because the cost of hydro is astronomical.
Debra Cooper Burger, Chair of the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors (OANHSS) told the Finance Committee hearings on the budget bill this week this government that seniors will be forced to choose to buy food instead of medication, he added.
“Our seniors rely on their medications to stay healthy and out of the hospital. Our most vulnerable deserve better,” said Fedeli.
“Will the Premier commit today to cancelling the planned changes to seniors drug costs outlined in the Budget?”
