ORDER OF ONTARIO NOMINEES SOUGHT

February 19, 2016

NORTH BAY – This year’s deadline for nominations for the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest official honour, is quickly approaching, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said today.

The Order of Ontario recognizes any current or former long-time resident of Ontario who has demonstrated a high level of individual excellence and achievement in any field benefiting the people of Ontario or anywhere in the world.

Last month, North Bay’s Dennis Chippa was one of 25 deserving new appointees who received the honour in a ceremony at the Ontario Legislature.

Nominees must be residents or former long-term residents of Ontario and they must be living at the time of nomination.  They do not need to be a Canadian citizen.  No elected federal, provincial or municipal official may be appointed to The Order of Ontario while in office.  The Order is not awarded for acts of bravery and self-nomination is not accepted.

The nomination deadline is March 31 of each year.  Nominations received after the deadline will be considered the following year, and all nominations are considered by an Advisory Council that recommends the most outstanding nominees to the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council (Lieutenant Governor of Ontario).

Eligibility criteria and detailed instructions on submitting your nomination package can be found at ontario.ca/honoursandawards.

If you have any questions, you can contact ontariohonoursandawards@ontario.ca, or MPP Fedeli’s constituency office at (705) 474-8340 or vic.fedelico@pc.ola.org.

“Please consider nominating a worthy individual here in Nipissing,” said Fedeli.
